Nature enthusiasts will get a chance to view Austin’s most majestic and serene backyards this weekend.
Spruce Up Austin, Inc. will hold its annual Yard and Garden Tour Saturday, June 23. The tour will take participants into six of Austin’s best-kept yards. While front yards are visible to all, most people never get a peek at all the scenic backyards Austin has to offer.
“We have found so many hidden treasures in Austin through our Yard of the Month recognition program,” said Kelly Lady, event chairperson. “We hope this Yard and Garden tour will help share others ideas on how to ‘spruce up’ their yards, too.”
A new feature this year includes bonus events at each garden such as live music and artists. Among the yards to be viewed are winners of SUA’s annual Yard of the Month competition. The cost is $8 per person. The tour will take place 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 23, rain or shine.
Official SUA Yard and Garden Tour signs will identify the residences. The tour addresses will be printed on the tickets. Homeowners and designated SUA volunteers will be present at each site to discuss gardening with participants.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards future SUA projects like enhancement of the city bike and walk path, landscaping medians and tree planting projects in area parks, according to Lady.
Tickets may be purchased in advance or the morning of the tour at Bergs Nursery, Dolan’s Landscape Center, Hardy Geranium, and SuperFresh Garden Center.
