Local resident John Baldus had a surprise for Michelle Guttormson on Tuesday: A promise ring.

“She gave me a promise ring for my birthday,” several weeks ago, Baldus said.

That’s why Baldus had the idea to return the favor Tuesday at the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. It was Valentine’s Day after all, and Guttormson was able to get off work and come to the event. Needless to say, it was a bit of a shock for the audience as well as Guttormson.

“She was very surprised,” Baldus said.
