NORTHWOOD, Iowa — Seven-year-old Kadyn Halverson was on her way to do something she loved when she was struck by a pickup and killed Tuesday morning.
She was about to board a school bus.
“She loved school,” said Kristen Meyer, her aunt and godmother.
“She was always excited to go and she liked doing her homework, too. She was the happiest, most energetic little girl. She was always excited to see everyone. There were lots of hugs and kisses.”
Her godmother said every day was a new adventure for Kadyn and she was always up for it.
“She never complained about anything. She was just a happy little girl.
“One of the things she liked to do best was to go out to the farm and ride on the combine with her grandpa.”
Kathy Meyer, Kadyn’s step-grandmother, agreed that the child loved going to school.
But her grandmother will remember the child most for her kindness.
“She had the biggest heart anyone could imagine,” she said. “She was always smiley, bubbly.
“And how she took care of her little brother who is 4. Just last Sunday when she got out of Sunday school she went to get him to make sure he got his treat and knew where he was supposed to go.”
Kathy Meyer’s voice broke as she talked about the crushing loss the family has experienced.
“We have such a void in our life now,” she said.
“She touched everyone. As I look around the house her presence is everywhere.”
People are also remembering Kadyn on Facebook. A Facebook page and event have been created in her memory.
“Watch For Little Ones” was created to encourage people to watch out for children. It had dozens of comments and more than 860 “likes” Wednesday evening.
A Facebook event called “Wear pink for Kadyn … RIP” is encouraging people to wear pink today. It, too, has dozens of comments and more than 1,500 people said they will wear pink today to remember Kadyn.
