It’s a New Year, baby

Armani Dominique Davenport may not have been a Christmas baby, but she was a gift all the same.
Armani, at 7 pounds 15 ounces and 20 inches long, is the first baby born in Austin in 2011. Her mother, Amanda Ingersoll, gave birth at 10:20 p.m. on New Year’s Day, more than a week after she was due.
“I expected a Christmas baby, not a New Year’s baby,” Ingersoll said.
Armani is Ingersoll and father Deonte Davenport’s first child. Ingersoll, 21, is thankful to have Armani, as she didn’t think she was able to get pregnant. Ingersoll had an ectopic pregnancy in 2009, which means a fetus developed outside of the womb. As a result, she was left with only one fallopian tube.
“It was unexpected,” Ingersoll said. “It was extra hard for me to have kids.”
As Armani grew, Ingersoll had four names picked out. Although the doctors had told her Armani would be a girl, she was hesitant to commit to a name. It wasn’t until she first looked at her child that she knew what Armani should be called.
“I’ve always liked that name,” Ingersoll explained. “I think it’s pretty. If you look at baby names in the baby book, it means a princess.”
Armani, Ingersoll and Davenport are all doing well. Armani is expected to go home with the happy couple on Jan. 4.
“It feels great,” Ingersoll said. “I’m really happy. The pain was horrible, but it was all worth it in the end.”
