The city of Austin has its potential grant priorities in place, but now the Hormel Foundation will get to have its say.

On Monday night, the City Council ranked a list of 12 potential projects — totaling roughly $420,000 — that they’d like to see be funded by the foundation. Coming out on top were two public safety related initiatives that would provide new smoke detectors for use in the community and defibrillators to be installed in some city buildings.

However, funding is contingent on what the Hormel Foundation decides to do later this year, as its board has final say on what gets funding — and what doesn’t.

Last year, the council requested $376.013 across 13 separate grant requests, and ultimately received $336,448.

The council does still need to officially approve the 2010 rankings, which should happen at their next meeting on Aug. 16.
