To burn, or not to burn, that is the question.

The county board should have its answer Tuesday when members vote on whether the Austin Fire Department will take down the condemned grandstand at the fairgrounds through a controlled burn.

The board meets at 9:30 a.m. in the county board room of the Government Center.

Commissioners have said it’s almost certain the grandstand will be demolished, and last week they seemed to favor the option of a controlled burn.

Last week, County Coordinator Craig Oscarson described the option as a win-win in that the county would have the structure demolished at a fraction of the typical cost and local fire departments would gain experience.
