An Austin teen got to show his stuff on his home track at the Motokazie Supercross Series at the Mower County Fair in Austin Tuesday night.

Adam Maxfield, a 13 year-old from Austin, was the youngest racer in the Lites B Class but it didn’t slow him down as he took first place in the opening race and second in the nightcap.

Maxfield cruised to a win in the first race, but trailed Tyler Espe of Albert Lea through the entire second race while battling driving rain, lighting and even a light that went out on the course.

“The first race I was kind of used to it and it wasn’t raining,” Maxfield said. “The second race it was raining and I couldn’t really see. I’m not used to racing in the dark.”

Maxfield, who races in around 30 events throughout the summer, is having a solid season. He is ranked first on the Motokazie Web Site in 250 C and 250 Jr. standings and he said he is ranked first in the state in one tier and third in the state in another tier.

“My parents are very supportive and its nice to do well as a younger rider,” he said.

Maxfield started motocross when he was just three years old and he hasn’t looked back since.

“My dad bought me a dirt bike and I just started racing. It’s a fun sport and I liked it a lot, I kept getting bigger bikes and now I am where I am,” he said. “My dream is to become a professional, but I’d have to work up to that.”

Another Austin teen who did well on Tuesday was Cameron Trimble, a 16-year old who took second in both Lites C races.

The Supercross Series was called off about halfway through the second set of races due to lightning.
