Who makes the best pies in Austin?

Residents will soon find out at the Austin Area Farmers’ Market Harvest Hoedown this Thursday, amidst family fun and a lot of homemade, homegrown goods.

“It’s kind of a bummer that we’re going to approach winter, but we want to have fun,” said Kim Olson, Harvest Hoedown organizer.

The Hoedown’s headline event is the pie judging contest, where residents can submit their pie and a recipe to find out who truly has Austin’s best. The contest, sponsored by Piggy Blues BBQ, will also award $100 to the winner.

Residents can also take advantage of several food vendors, a caricature artist, listen to Albert Lea musician Jennifer Ordalen, or have their children decorate pumpkins.

The Harvest Hoedown goes from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Farmers’ Market on Main Street between Third and Fourth avenues. Pie contest participants must submit their recipes and pies by 5 p.m., with the contest taking place after that.
