Storms in, tarps out: Baseball Section Finals resume Wednesday

Published 7:52 am Wednesday, June 5, 2019

A pair of area baseball teams will have to wait an extra day to see if they can make it to state.

The Austin baseball team was leading Albert Lea 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning of the Section 1AAA finals in Marcusen Park and Hayfield was trailing Spring Grove 4-0 in the third inning of the Section 1A finals at Seltz Field when storms rolled into the area and postponed both contests.

Each team will resume play at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Coaches and players from Austin and Albert Lea jump in to lay down tarp as action was stalled and ultimately postponed in the Section 1AAA finals.

If Austin hangs on and wins, it will earn its first trip to the Minnesota Class AAA State Touranment since 1990. If the Packers lose, it will get a second game to try and get to state.

If Hayfield comes back and wins, it will earn its first trip to state in program history. If it loses, the Vikings will also get a second game to try to get to state.
