Paul Fischer — Austin City Council

Four candidates are in the home stretch for two seats on the Austin City Council. In the 1st Ward, incumbent Michael Jordal is seeking to hold off challenger Laura Helle. In the 3rd Ward, incumbent Jeremy Carolan is looking to hold off challenger Paul Fischer. Mayor Tom Stiehm and 2nd Ward Council member Steve King are also up for re-election, but both are unopposed.

Paul Fischer, 50, is an account manager for Alpha Media. He is active with Vision 2020 and the Salvation Army. He has two children, Evan and Katara.

Q: Why did you decide to run/rerun for Austin City Council?

A: I decided to run because of my experience, knowledge and wanting to make Austin a great place to raise a family

Q: Tell us about your past experience.

A: My experience of six years on Brownsdale Council when I lived there gave me a well rounded insight on government.

Q: What do you believe will make you a good board member?

A: I am involved in other organizations in Austin which I feel help inform me on whats going on in Austin. In my career I talk to business owners and employees daily of which I hear concerns often and I would like to be involved in decision making to better our community as to what the citizens ask for.

Q: Describe how you would approach and consider issues on the council?

A: My approach would be to listen to constituents and base decisions on their concerns.

Q: Describe you approach to discussing and weighing budget, funding and spending issues as they come up.

A: In discussing these issues what the citizens think needs to be listened to and at what cost to them will occur.

Q: What things do you think can be done to improve the city?

A: I think Austin is a great place to live and raise a family, that’s why I’m here. There always can be improvements but each needs to be looked at in the best interest of families.

Q: What other issues would like to see addressed by the board and why?

A: I fell there are some issues present to the board now that might be better suited to be handled by a new view point.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?

A: Most anything outdoors: biking, walks, car shows.

Q: What would we find you doing on a typical Friday night?

A: Going to a game or something involving my kids.
