Austin-native photog’s work of local roller derby team honored

“Get Derby or Get Wrecked,” by Nick Adams

MINNEAPOLIS — Photographs created by Nick Adams, Austin High School alum and Austin native, now of Supreme Images Photography in Minneapolis, has had two prints accepted into the General Collection and one print accepted into the Loan Collection of Professional Photographers of America’s 2015 International Photographic Competition.

Adams’ work will be on display at the Georgia World Congress, Jan. 10-12, in Atlanta, Georgia.

This International Photographic Exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of 45 jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from nearly 5,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, just over 1,800 images are selected for the General Collection and approximately 7 to 12 percent were selected for the Loan Collection—the best of the best.

Titled, “Get Derby or Get Wrecked”, (a composite team poster done of the Minnesota Southbound Rollers) Adams’ photograph has won the high honor of being published in the Loan Collection. This is the second time in three years Adams has been published in the Loan Collection.

“I definitely was not expecting to go Loan,” Adams said. “That image took a long time to create. It’s nice to know the judges value and appreciate my hard work and talents.”

Adams’ two other international award-winning prints accepted into the General Collection include, “Breaking Free” (Fine Art) and “Triathlete” (high school senior). This is the third year Adams has entered IPC. He has gone Loan two out of his three years entering
