Mellisa and Phil Toupin didn’t only have their first baby, they also had the first baby at the Austin medical center for 2015.

Aurora Nadine Toupin was born at 4:07 p.m. at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin on Jan. 3, 2015. She weighed seven pounds and five ounces.

“Very, very excited,” Mellisa said. “The labor went a little differently than I thought it’d be, but it’s amazing how quickly you forget about it afterward.”

The couple was excited about having Austin’s first baby of 2015. With several other expecting mothers at the hospital, the couple was a bit surprised.

“I really didn’t expect it,” Mellisa said. “It was a little distracting to have competition.”

The family received several gifts to congratulate them, including a care basket with diapers, books and toys, and a toddler tricycle.

Mellisa and Phil were married in July 2012. During the pregnancy, the couple didn’t pull for a boy or a girl, as Phil noted they just wanted a healthy baby.

After searching through baby names, they chose Aurora, which made Mellisa think of the princess from Sleeping Beauty. She said the newborn has been sleeping well so far, so the name is fitting.

“She’s been a great sleeper, which I’m hoping doesn’t jinx us later,” Mellisa laughed.

A beautiful goddess

Aurora was the Roman goddess of the morning/dawn. Princess Aurora was the main character in “Sleeping Beauty.”
