David Emerson McConnell, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, died early Monday morning, Aug. 18, 2014, at St. Mark’s Living Center.

David was born on April 12, 1933, to Lloyd and Mildred (Albertson) McConnell in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. David attended Eden Prairie schools and graduated as one of 17 from Eden Prairie High School. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Minnesota, David joined the Student Project for Amnety among Nations and spent study and travel time in South America.

David joined the Hormel Foods Corporation in Oct. 1955, where he enjoyed 38 years of employment in varied areas of the organization. In 1956, David married Lois Crosby and together they raised three children, Susan, Gregg and Ann. David loved life and was a kind and gentle man. His family was most important to him and he dearly loved his children and grandchildren. Membership at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church was enjoyed by David for over 50 years. He enjoyed the Austin Country Club for golf and for many years David participated in Spruce up Austin and the West End Club.

David was preceded in death by his dad Lloyd; mother Mildred; baby brother Lloyd; and step father Loring Tuckey.

He is survived by his wife Lois, Austin, Minnesota; children, Susan (Steve) Quint, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gregg (Sally) McConnell, Austin, Minnesota, Ann (Paul) Gandrud, Eau Claire, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Sara Quint, Jay, Ryan and Marissa McConnell, Justin and Jake Gandrud; brother, Paul McConnell, St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday morning for one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Austin Art Center or the friend’s Choice.
