Pierce Dow Fleming, 72

Peirce Dow Fleming, 72, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 28, 2024. He was born on February 3, 1952, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Max William Fleming and Margaret Irene (Hatfield) Fleming. On May 30, 1980, he married Marsha Delores Newsome in Columbus, Georgia.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and then began his career with the United States Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 2012. During his career with the USDA, he spent time at the University of Kentucky and Iowa State University.

Pierce joined the Minnesota National Guard in 1970 and attended numerous schools including Army Ranger School and Airborne School. He later received a commission as a 2nd LT in the Army Reserve and served as a company commander at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He continued service in the Army Reserve until 1994.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Fleming, and parents, Max and Margaret Fleming.

Survivors include his children: Tiffany (Nelson) Lowery of Lexington, KY; Anna (Jon) Boyer of Austin, MN; Jason (Amanda) Dyal of Lexington, KY; Eric (Kaitlyn) Fleming of Rochester, MN; and Brian (Morgan) Fleming of Ames, IA; siblings: Mary Kruger of Austin, MN; Steve (Vicky) Fleming of Elysian, MN; Rita (Dale) Seth of Mankato, MN; Jeff (Sherri) Fleming of Preston, MN; Keith (Kelly) Fleming of Austin, MN; and Ralph Fleming of St. Cloud, MN; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be before the memorial service from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the family to use at their discretion.
