The DC Drifters are back at it again. They are ready to head back into the studio for the first time since 1966.

“It’s been a long time since we recorded,” said Denny Charnecki, member and concert promoter of the DC Drifters.

Though it won’t be out until winter, Charnecki already has a rough idea of what the album will look like. There will be 12 songs on the record, featuring a range of different sounds.

“Some new, some old, some country, gospel, and rock [will be on the album],” Charnecki said. “There’s a little of everything.”

Nothing is set in stone yet, however. Some topics still need to be decided on, like the style of music.

“We’re still testing some things,” Charnecki said.

Georgette Jones, daughter of George Jones, approached the group about recording the album a little over a year ago, though she won’t be singing on it as of now.

“I’d like to get her to sing on one of our records,” Charnecki said.

For this album, the DC Drifters will get to work with some familiar faces. Some of the same producers and booking agents of George Jones, a former touring mate, will be in the studio with them.

Over the years, the band has had more than 100 members in their ranks, and Charnecki wants to dedicate the album to all the current and former DC Drifters, as well as the fans who have supported them along the way.

“If [the fans] didn’t come to our shows, we wouldn’t be able to play,” Charnecki said. “We appreciate that.”

The group has yet to get into the studio, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be busy with other performances.

On July 5 starting at 5 p.m., the DC Drifters, along with Amanda Corey, 3 Lane Band, and other local artists will be performing at the Eagles.

The cost is $2 for Eagle members, and $5 for general audience.

“A lot of these shows would go for $25,” Charnecki said. “It’s kind of an entertainment bargain.”

The finale will feature all of the musicians on stage for the grand finale.

“There’s a lot of things going on at the Eagles,” Charnecki said. “It’s going to be wild.”
