More than 100 local golfers teed off to fight cancer Monday.

Thirty-three teams of four golfers each participated in the fourth annual Dave “Tolly” Tollefson Cancer Research Memorial Golf Outing at Meadow Greens yesterday. Dave, the owner of Tolly’s Time Out and the Mower County District 5 commissioner, passed away in 2009.

So far, the tournament has raised more than $50,000 for cancer research at The Hormel Institute, and Brian and his girlfriend, Geri Olson, hoped to raise about $15,000 this year.

“It’s great to see the growth,” said Brian, Dave’s son.

Along with Brian losing his dad, Olson also lost her father, Gary Halleland, to cancer.

“It’s a very big deal for both of us,” Olson said of the tournament.

Along with the golf, there was also a silent auction and raffle, with items like a zero-turn lawn mower and a 50-inch television. Another prize was a chance to watch a Minnesota Twins game in former first-baseman Kent Hrbeck’s seats. Hrbeck donated two sets of two tickets in the Legends Club at Target Field through his friend, Daryl Busker, who volunteered at the tournament Monday.

Golf tournament organizers also ran the beer garden at the Polar Plunge during Paint the Town Pink and won a prize for raising the most money for the plunge, according to Olson.
