Show with music and a message

Music, faith and hope come together at Cornerstone Church on Friday for the “Small Town America Tour.”
Christian acts, including Seventh Day Slumber and accompanying acts Havenstance and Submission Red, will take to the stage starting at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Profits for the event go to the suicide awareness program in Austin, Desperate Tears.
The three bands are billed as Christian rock but there will also be much, much more.
“They bring a lot of energy, but testimony is the biggest thing about them,” co-organizer Steve Turner said of headlining act Seventh Day Slumber.
In particular is frontman Joseph Rojas who’s story of drugs and crime and redemption reaches out to people who perhaps have no place else to turn.
“If you come to this show with no hope, I guarantee you will leave with hope,” said the concert’s other co-organizer, Shelley LeTendre. “That’s where he is now. Traveling around the world, reaching out. I’ve seen him three times and I’ve been affected each time.”
Turner met Rojas during the Lifelight tour in South Dakota where he has worked security for seven years. Turner approached Rojas and the two started talking with Turner telling him about Desperate Tears and how he would like to arrange something with the band in Minnesota.
The show, complete with music and a story, also serves as a place for people to come together to find support with each other.
“If a person was hurting it would be a first step, for people who are in their shoes or have been in their shoes,” Turner said. “At the end, if you see one person that was touched and that person comes out with a better outlook on life, that makes it worth it.”
Tickets for the event are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Hy-Vee and Cornerstone Church. Contact LeTendre through email at shellthompson4@yahoo.com
