Nobody has to be Irish to enjoy this weekend. St. Patrick’s Day is on Saturday, and the Irish are bringing their joy to Austin. Furthermore, you don’t even really need to know what you want to do this weekend. Let Austin Park and Recreation and the Oak Park Mall ask the questions:

U Wanna What?!

That’s the question, and that’s the event. The second annual event at Oak Park Mall will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Activities include archery, throwing contests, cup stacking, go fish, a petting zoo and more. Go ahead; do what you want.

Oh, and it’s free.

I’m not sure if Tom Petty is Irish. I’m also not sure if his tribute band, Free Fallin’ is, either. But they’ll give the St. Patty’s Day festivities their all this Saturday evening at the Eagles Club in Austin, 107 11th St. NE. The Minneapolis-based band may just be runnin’ down a dream trying to duplicate the Heartbreakers’ sound, but I’m sure they won’t back down.

Lehto and Wright

There is only so much luck to go around this Saturday. If Free Fallin isn’t your thing, perhaps the Irish sounds of Lehto and Wright are. John Wright and Steven Lehto will be at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE, at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, to blend their modern rock sounds with more traditional English, Irish and Scottish music. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, $5 for students and are available at the Paramount Box Office.

YMCA

Boys will be boys. So let them be boys at the YMCA, 704 First Dr. NW, starting 6 p.m. this Saturday. There’s a scavenger hunt, or the more rowdy can take part in boys’ Nerf night. The scavenger hunt is free for members and $15 for non-members. Nerf wars are $12.50 per member pair or $25 per non-member pair. Who doesn’t want to play with Nerf guns?

Other events

Take whatever money you have left from the weekend, and give it away. That’s right, but not just to anybody. The March of Dimes and Austin Noon Kiwanis Club are both holding fundraisers at the Pizza Ranch next week, so pony up those dollars — pun intended.
