Ruth Marie Johnson, 92, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Dec. 19, 2015, at Bridge Haven at Alvamar in Lawrence, Kansas, with her daughter at her side.

Ruth was born to Norman and Luella (Peterson) Hanson on Aug. 15, 1923, at the home of her grandparents, Nels and Caroline Hanson in Lyle Township, Minnesota. She graduated from Lyle High School in 1941. Ruth married Gordon Johnson on Jan. 9, 1943, in Lyle, Minnesota. She worked at Herb and Bill’s Grocery, Woolworths, Simonson Paint Store, and retired from Wallaces. Ruth and Gordon were long time active members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. She was also a past board member at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and dancing.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Etzig of Lawrence, Kansas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Trista Etzig and husband Adam Brecher and Abbott of Washington, D.C., Chad and Amy Etzig and Chloe, Dylan and Emily of Olathe, Kansas, Alison and Paul Groenwoldt and Hanna of LaPlata, Maryland; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon on Dec. 4, 2004; parents, Norman and Luella Hanson; sisters and brothers-in-law: Virginia and H.C. Blume, and Betty and Rudy Jansen.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Todd Portinga, AIM officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday morning at the funeral home. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
