Raymond John “Ray” Webster, 88, of Charles City, died Thursday morning, April 16, 2015, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Ray was born on Feb. 16, 1927, at 803 Howard St., in Charles City, to John K. and Cecil (Young) Webster. He resided in Charles City his whole life. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1946. At the age of 16, Ray began working for his father at Webster’s Better Meats and Groceries. He helped with groceries and butchering. After graduation he continued working for his father until 1966 when the business was sold. Ray became a deputy sheriff and worked for Floyd County for 23 years. He was proud of his occupation and took a lot of pride in his job. He retired in 1989. Ray’s first marriage was to Viola Montgomery. To this union, three children were born: Carol, Mary Jane and David. Ray and Viola later divorced. He later married Lois Casler. Together they had a son, Jason.

Ray was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge for a short time. His interests included reading, old cars, trains, collecting antique telephones, and watching big band and polka shows. With his family, he spent a lot of time camping, especially in Decorah, Iowa, and also liked traveling. Family was everything to Ray; of the utmost importance. Ray will be remembered for his kind heart, fairness and honesty to others. He lived his life treating others very respectfully and tenderly.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Lois of 40 years of Charles City; children: Carol (Don) Ulwelling of Rose Creek, Minnesota, Mary Jane (Doug) Madsen of South Lyon, Missouri, and Jason Webster of Charles City; step-children: Monte (Laura) Casler of Charles City, and Verlynn Casler of Charles City; grandchildren: Julie (Jeff) Hendrikson, Patty (Mark) Jacobson, Lori (Jamie) Beck, Joshua (Tammy) Madsen, Chris (Tiffany) Madsen, Nick (Erin) Webster, Cassie Sheda and Myranda Webster; step-grandsons: Matthew Casler and Andrew Casler; great-grandchildren: Adam (Fiance Samantha), Derek Hendrikson, Caden Jacobson, Isabel, Isaac, Jack Beck, Shay, Colin Webster, Cade Sheda, Olivia, Jacob, Isabel Madsen; step-great-grandchildren: Adrianne, Alexis, Ava Casler; niece, Barbara Sterling; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Webster; brothers, Don (Barbara) Webster and Keith (Helen) Webster; and grandson, Richard Ulwelling.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St, Charles City. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 705 3rd Ave. Charles City. Officiating will be the Rev. Jane Keel. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.
