Darrell Delbert was born to Clarence and Della (Waldemar) King on March 30, 1950, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He grew up in the Moscow area, and graduated from Austin High School in 1968. He then studied radio communication at Austin Vocation School before moving to the Twin Cities to work and live with his brother and family. In 1969, Darrell entered military service in the United States Army. Serving as Military Police, he once guarded President Nixon down the streets of New York City. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, he returned home, and on April 29, 1972, was united in marriage to Marie Noble at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. To this union two children were born. Over the years Darrell worked a few places in Albert Lea, Minnesota, before beginning a long career with Mower County. He served as head of maintenance from November 1974 until his retirement in July of 2007. Darrell loved to sit out in his garage and listen to the Golden Oldies, and visit with friends at the Rock and the Eagles Club. Most of all he loved his family. We were so grateful to everyone at the Mayo Clinic Health System – Austin Campus for the great care he received, including the doormen and greeters. We would also like to thank everyone at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home for the wonderful care he received during his 19-day stay. Finally for all those who came to visit Darrell, and all the nice cards, well wishes and prayers; we will never forget them.

Darrell is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Marie King of Austin, Minnesota; children: Matthew King of Mankato, Minnesota, and Melissa King (Shannon Schewe) of Austin, Minnesota; three grandchildren: Harmony, Kamryn, and Daxton of Austin, Minnesota; brother, Donald (Diann) King of Albert Lea, Minnesota; sisters: Iona Rydmark of Anoka, Minnesota, and Joann (Donly) Cromwell of Geneva, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
