The Port of Elkton damaged in Tuesday night fire

The Port Bar and Grill in Elkton was damaged during a Tuesday night fire.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, Mower County deputies on patrol in Elkton noticed smoke coming from the roof of the business at about 10:56 p.m. on Tuesday. They notified the Mower County Communication Center of a possible fire, then checked the perimeter of the building and notified nearby neighbors in case the fire spread.

The Dexter and Adams Fire Departments responded to the scene. Deputies remained on scene to act as traffic control as firefighters extinguished the fire.

Port owner Michael Dortland arrived on scene and told first responders he had left the building at around 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday and that he had been the only person there.

The State Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted. There is no known cause for the fire at this time.

The amount of damage and loss is also unknown at this time.
