Ruby’s Pantry Austin served over 400 families and individuals during it’s April 16 drive-thru pantry at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

Cars lined up inside the fairgrounds in two rows with more vehicles stretching down Eighth Avenue Southwest and around onto 12th Street Southwest, past Buffy The Cow. Distribution began a little before 5 p.m. and lasted around two hours until all the food was handed out.

Unfortunately, some had to be turned away when the food ran out.

Volunteers came from throughout the community. High school and college students pitched in as well as business groups and other individuals to get the job done.

Volunteers began setting up at 11 a.m. and clean up was completed by 7:30 p.m.. The Mower County Fairgrounds was the perfect location for the drive-thru that was conducted that way due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Organizers say that the May 21 distribution will probably be a drive-thru as well. Go to the Rubys Pantry Austin Facebook page for more information.
