Lanny Michael Callahan, 63

Lanny Michael Callahan, 63, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, surrounded by family at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, after suffering complications from a liver transplant in August.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1956, in Austin, Minnesota, to Walter and Mary (Shatek) Callahan. He was raised in Austin and made his home in Blooming Prairie. Lanny was united in marriage to Tammy Shawback (Mugridge) on Aug. 23, 1975. To this union, two daughters were born, Stacy and Jessica. Lanny and Tammy recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. Lanny finished his career at Bosch in Owatonna, Minnesota; he had previously worked at DMF, Mustang and OTC. He was a member of the KC Club and Moose Lodge in Austin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all, Lanny enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed their family trips to Disney World. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Callahan of Blooming Prairie; daughters, Stacy (Michael Jaramillo) Callahan and Jessica (Brandon) Johnson; grandchildren, Sophia Johnson, Aubrey Johnson and Logan Johnson; brother, Larry (Debbie) Callahan; sisters, Laurie (Richard) Sylvester and Lois Callahan; mother-in-law, Catherine Shawback; brothers-in-law, J.R. (Pam) Shawback and Donald Shawback; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Charlie) Wallace and Amelia (Lonell) Lim; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Callahan; sister, Linda Butler; and fathers-in-law, Leslie Shawback and Ronald Mugridge.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Worlein Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie and will continue for one hour fprior to the service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Blooming Prairie Cancer Group. Worlein Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie is performing services.
