According to the court complaint, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper was driving through Austin at about 10:53 p.m. on Friday when he spotted a 2014 Dodge Charger parked in Todd Park after it had closed. The trooper made contact with the driver, Olson, who said he was “decompressing” after a long week.

The trooper noticed Olson had dilated pupils that were slow to react to light. Olson also appeared fidgety and was grinding his teeth. The trooper asked if Olson had used illegal drugs and Olson said he had smoked marijuana earlier in the evening. He denied recent use of methamphetamine.

The trooper had Olson perform four field sobriety tests, two of which he failed. Olson refused to perform a fifth field sobriety test.

Olson was placed under arrest and his vehicle was searched. The trooper located 0.14 grams of methamphetamine and two marijuana pipes in the vehicle.

Olson provided a blood sample at the Mower County Jail. The sample was sent to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension laboratory for analysis.

Olson will appear in court again on Nov. 4.
