Byron “Barney” Lawrence Hanson, 89, of suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019.

After a career in human resources at Control Data Corporation, he became a parish administrator for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Barney was a devoted, principle, and fun husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his first priority. He was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan and spent many hours watching and encouraging them in their interests, sports and activities. He enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and photography. He was very active in the churches of which he was a member. He was a humorous, enthusiastic storyteller and an eloquent public speaker.

He was preceded in death by parents, Austin and Evelyn Shave; and four siblings. Barney is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Proulx; children, Anne, Kathy Quick (Jack), Mark, Brian and David; grandchildren and step-grandchildren; Alissa Doth (Jeremy Stratton), Lou Doth (Erin), Carrie Roberts (Aaron), Brady Johnson, Aaron Hedrix (Casey), Brianna Rodriguez (Ulises), Kelsie Hadrava (Josh), Dana Liberty (Matt) and Sara Hanson (Reese Thoen); great-grandchildren, Theo, London, Kennedy, Paul, Miles, Isabelle, Abigail, Eloise, Gabriella, Adelynn, Elise, Lauren, Whitney and Harrison; and many family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be held at the adjacent cemetery with a lunch to follow. Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
