Austin is no stranger to big tournaments and Art Hass Stadium is now set to join the lineup of tournament hosts this fall.

Austin has been named a host site for the Minnesota Class Nine Man State Football Tournament quarterfinals this fall. Art Hass Stadium will also host a Minnesota Class A or Class AA section final.

Art Hass became eligible as a state tournament host site when it added turf in 2015. Austin activities director Lisa Quednow is pleased to finally bring a state tournament football game to town.

“It’s good for those schools that are going to be there. It will be a neat environment for the teams. Anyone who has been to Art Hass on a Friday night knows how fun it can be,” Quednow said. “I think for our community, it says a lot. We have a fantastic facility and we host quite a few section events. Our plates were full last year.”

Last year Austin hosted the Section 1A title games for boys and girls soccer, and hosts section softball, section baseball and the Big Nine Girls Golf Meet was held at Austin Country Club.

This year Austin will host the Big Nine Dance Meet, the Big Nine Gymnastics Meet and it will have a chance to host a Section 1AAA volleyball, girls basketball or boys basketball semifinal contest as that round will no longer be held in Rochester.

“Part of the reason that people want to work on us at this level is we have a great custodial staff and building and grounds crew that make sure our facilities are always well taken care of,” Quednow said.
