Marty Lynn Morrison, 40, of Faribault was sentenced to two concurrent sentences of 60 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility for two counts of felony violent felon in possession of a firearm on Thursday in Mower County District Court. He received credit for 378 days served.

Charges of felony violent felon in possession of firearm ammunition, felony fifth-degree drug possession, second-degree DWI-refusal to submit to a chemical test as required by a search warrant, gross misdemeanor third-degree DWI-under the influence of a controlled substance and misdemeanor driving after the revocation of his license were dismissed.

Judge Christa M. Daily issued the sentence.

Morrison, who has multiple felony convictions, was arrested on Feb. 22, 2018, after a Mower County deputy witnessed a 2006 Ford Taurus driving erratically on Interstate 90. When the deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver, Morrison, threw a clear plastic bag out the window before coming to a stop. The deputy stopped and retrieved the bag, which contained 4.21 grams of methamphetamine.

Morrison’s eyes were bloodshot and his pupils were slow to react to the light.

The deputy got back in his car to run his information and saw Morrison reaching into his center console. The deputy told him to step out of the vehicle and asked if there were any weapons in the car, which Morrison denied.

The deputy then administered a field sobriety test, which Morrison failed. He also refused to perform any balance tests.

Morrison was placed under arrest and was found to be in possession of a tear gas compound. The deputy then searched the car and found .40-caliber ammunition, a round of rifle ammunition, several knives, a black expandable baton, a loaded Glock Model 23 in a holster, two loaded pistol magazines, and a Sig Sauer AR-15 with 58 rounds of ammunition. The serial numbers on the Glock and AR-15 came back stolen.

As part of the sentence, Morrison must also pay $85 in court fees.
