Stop sign request and street assessment rates on council agenda

The Austin City Council will be voting on a stop sign request at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Sixth Street Southwest during its next regular meeting.

The request for the stop sign came after a recent accident at the uncontrolled intersection that caused one of the vehicles involved to run into a nearby residence.

A review of the intersection’s accident history shows an average of one accident per year. Public Works Director Steven Lang recommended the council approve the request.

The council will also vote on proposal from WHKS for a sanitary sewer inflow and infiltration reduction project.

According to Lang, the goal of the project is to “reduce clear water from entering the sanitary sewer system through cracks in the sewer mains and manholes, and from private sources such as sump pumps, seepage collection systems, defective service laterals, and roof drains.”

Lang will outline assessment rates for street repairs on Sixth Street Northeast during the council’s work session following the regular meeting.

The council’s next regular meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, in the City Council Chambers located in the basement of City Hall. The work session will take place in the conference room across the hall immediately following the meeting.
