Margo Kelsey Roberts, 69

Margo Kelsey Roberts, 69, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester.

She was born July 2, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas, to J.F. and Marilyn, the oldest of three children. Margo grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and graduated from Northside High school in 1967. Margo went on to study chemistry at Lindenwood College, graduating with a B.A. in 1971. She later earned a master of arts in cell biology from the University of Kansas in 1971.

Margo pursued a career in electron microscopy at the University of Iowa, and then the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, before leaving to join her husband managing the family owned businesses.

While a student at Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Margo met her future husband, Richard Roberts, whom she married in 1972. They had three children and were married for 35 years. In the course of their marriage, they founded a successful chiropractic practice with locations in Dodge Center, Minnesota, and Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, as well as a real estate business that rehabilitated around 70 homes and apartment complexes across southeast Minnesota. In recent years, Margo joined her son’s digital marketing agency as Lead Content Editor.

Margo dedicated a great deal of her time towards community service and was active in Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Dodge Center Public Library, the United Methodist Church, and many more organizations and causes. She enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, swimming at the Dodge Center Pool and spending time with her grandchildren.

Margo was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Rob Jacobi; and husband, Richard. She is survived by her sister, Ellen Jacobi, Grand Forks, North Dakota; brother, Fred (Melinda) Kelsey, Longmont, Colorado; daughters, Zoe Roberts, Dodge Center, and Kelsey Roberts, Kansas City, Missouri; son, David (Liliya) Roberts, Rochester; five grandchildren, McEwen, Sophia, Owen, Leo and Finn; and special friend, Stevanna Delzer. Her family’s sorrow is eased by the steady flow of reminders of how much joy and enrichment she brought to the lives of the people she touched.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, First Avenue and First Street Northeast in Dodge Center with the Rev. Lind Boorman officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 25 South St. SW in Dodge Center. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree. Also, donations can be made to Paws and Claws Humane Society, the United Methodist Church of Dodge Center or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Margo.
