DWI arrest follows head-on collision

A man was briefly hospitalized then arrested for DWI after a head-on vehicle collision on Tuesday.

Kim Delane Johnson, 60, of Austin is in Mower County Jail and could face potential charges of third-degree DWI, open bottle and failure to keep right.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers responded to an accident at 8:54 p.m. at Sixth Street Northeast near the Interstate 90 overpass.

The victim told police she had just exited Interstate 90 and had turned right onto Sixth Street Northwest when a Pontiac Sunfire driving northbound in the southbound lane collided head-on with her Honda Odyssey.

The victim was not hurt. Johnson, who was driving the Pontiac, had an injury to his head. He was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance Service to Mayo Clinic Health System – Austin, where he was treated and released at 11:23 p.m.

After his release, Johnson was arrested and taken to Mower County Jail, where he allegedly tested positive for being over the legal limit, according to Krueger.
