Movie under the stars; Vision 2020 hosting community movie night at Bandshell Park

The Vision 2020 Community Pride and Spirit Committee would like to invite you to the movies.
Members will show “The Goonies” at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday at Bandshell Community Park. The event is free and is sponsored by Games People Play, First Farmers and Merchants, Accentra Credit Union, US Bank and Bremer Bank.
Community Pride and Spirit Chairwoman Kristen Olson said the purpose is to create a more welcoming environment.
“We’re interested in finding ways to get people in the community to feel like they’re a part of the community,” she said. “This allows them to get out and meet their neighbors and feel a sense of pride and spirit in the connections they have here in the community.”
Olson said that, although the committee is new to showing night movies, the Bandshell has been the site of movie showings in the past.
The Community Pride and Spirit Committee showed its first movie, “Rogue One,” during Freedom Fest in July.
“We wanted to show a movie in conjunction with Freedom Fest because we knew people were already interested in being out and about,” Olson said.
About 450 people showed up to watch “Rogue One.”
Olson said that, although Saturday’s event will be the last movie showing of the year at the Bandshell, the committee plans to show three movies next year.
For those interested in requesting a movie to show, Olson encourages them to visit the committee’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/VIS2020PRIDE/.
“We will poll people on the Facebook page to find out what people are interested in seeing,” she said. “They must be family-friendly movies so that people of all ages will want to come out. We’re a little restricted in what the company can provide for us.”
Olson said the event would be rescheduled in the event of bad weather.
Guests are welcome to provide their own chairs, food and beverages (nothing in glass). Concessions will be available for purchase.
Pets are not allowed at this event. Olson asks that people clean up after themselves.
“We want to leave the park the way we found it,” she said.
