Sprucing up East Side Lake; Volunteers cleaning up in advance of the Fourth

Austin High School wrestlers Tae Weber and Coy Stark took a moment for a picture on East Side Lake before paddling their canoe over to shore to start collecting garbage.

The two were part of a group organized by Spruce Up Austin to clean along the lake Tuesday ahead of the Fourth of July.

Spruce Up adopted the East Side Lake area as part of the Adopt-a-River program, which brings out volunteers to clean and care for stretches of local waterways.

The stretch made for the perfect area for Spruce Up to adopt because it’s right along a tree walk the group planted along the trails by the lake.

“Cleaning this, it goes with our mission statement with Spruce Up Austin to clean up in the community,” Spruce Up President Chris Stepp said.

Spruce Up volunteers were joined by AHS wrestlers and Austin Jaycees members.
