Tryouts coming for Austin Area VB Club

Austin Area Volleyball Club tryouts start today, Sunday Nov. 8, in Hastings gym from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for those students that would participate on teams in age groups of 14U, 16U and 18U.

On Monday those that could not try out on Sunday for the 14U team will have another opportunity at Ellis Middle School from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

We will hold another session on Monday, Nov. 16 for those on the 16U and 18U teams if they did not participate on Sunday. Paperwork can be picked up at our office and brought to the tryout with the $70 participant fee. If the student does not make a team the fee will be returned following all tryout dates. Flag football

Do you have your team ready for Dome football?

We will offer Seven-Man Adult Flag Football starting Dec. 1. Players must be 18 as of June 1, 2015, with a roster limit of 20 players and games will not start before 6:30 p.m. There will be one official provided per game.

The $417 team entry is due by Nov. 23 which breaks down to $42 per person on a 10 player roster or $7 per week.

League will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 1 for six weeks.

Riverside and Packer Arena

You can still sign up for the Learn to Play Hockey for kid’s ages 3 to 8 partnering with Austin Youth Hockey and the Austin Bruins beginning Nov. 11 through Dec. 16.

Kids will be separated by skill level and taught the basics. Sign up in our office Monday. The cost is $35.

Austin Youth Hockey will provide the necessary equipment, skates can be rented from us and you will need to provide a mouth guard and a stick.

Curling League will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9 through Dec. 28 for those 16 and older. The cost to join is $75. Please register at the Park and Recreation office.

Adult Open Hockey is at Riverside Arena from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 11 and 18. The cost is $6 per person, you must be at least in high school, no checking, no alcohol and a helmet is required. Goalies are free and must have full gear.

Public skating at Packer Arena will be held from 6:35 to 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and 18. The cost is $4 to skate and $1 to rent skates if you should need them. Family or single memberships are also available to purchase. The family membership for two is $70 with $5 for additional family members a single is $50.

Soccer program

We will be combining our winter youth soccer program with Austin Youth Soccer’s dome soccer skills camps as we feel this will better benefit the participants. Cost for students in U6 to U9 is $30 and U10 to U11,$75. Those groups will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday’s on the following dates: Nov 28, 30; Dec 5,7,12,14,19 and 21. Baseball under the dome

Currently we are accepting registrations for a baseball pitching machine league to be held in the dome at Wescott Field. Participants that are 7 and 8-years-old will meet early evening on Mondays beginning Dec. 7 through Jan. 25. Participants, ages 9 and 10, will meet early evenings on Tuesdays beginning Dec. 8 through Jan. 26. We will offer this league to the 11 and 12-year-olds as well with a tentative night being Tuesdays. Class will not meet Dec. 22 through Jan. 2. The cost is $45 per participant; please sign up in the Park and Recreation office.

Annual feast

The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center’s 13th annual Thanksgiving Feast is fast approaching. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center beginning at 5 p.m. with the social hour, silent auction and raffles. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.; Hormel pork loin, sides and dessert followed by a short program and live auction at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now; $35 if you are a Friends of the Nature Center member and $40 for non-members, call the Nature Center at 507-437-7519 or contact Rich and JoAnn Aho at 507-433-6928.

The Bruins next home games will be against on Nov. 20 and 21 and then agains Minot on Nov. 27 and 28.
