Ardis Naomi Newman, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.

She was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Hesper, Iowa, to Nervin and Agnes (McMillian) Skauge. Ardis grew up in the Hesper, Rooster Valley, Black Hammer Area of Iowa. Her family then moved to Austin when her father took a job with Hormel. She met and married William B. Newman, and they raised their family and resided their entire married life in Austin. Ardis worked part time for the Salvation Army in Austin, retiring after 41 years of service. She also was a tireless volunteer for the Salvation Army as part of the Home League, League of Mercy, War Crys and Bell Ringing, just to name a few.  At the center of her life was serving the Lord, and the love she had for her family.

Ardis is survived by her sons: William Newman and Ronald Newman of Austin; daughters: Dorothy Newman and Barbara (Ronald) Johnson of Austin; brother, Norman Skauge of Austin; daughter-in-law, Linda Newman of Austin; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren (expecting a third soon!); many nieces, nephews; and other relatives, and family friend Phillip Melby of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Newman; sons: Robert Newman and Dennis Newman; siblings: Helen at infancy, Ruby (Robert) Godwin, LaVonne (Earl) Dahmen, Wilma (Keith) Loftas; nieces: Bonnie and Rosemary Godwin, and Darla Dahmen; nephew, Allen Loftas; sister-in-law Peggy Skauge.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Austin with Lt. David and Lt. Laura Amick officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery. The Newman family will greet friends on Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Chapel, prior to services.
