Lifeguard training returns to Austin’s YMCA

Are you interested in becoming an American Red Cross Lifeguard? The December American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class will be at the YMCA of Austin from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 29, 30, 31 with pretest from 8 to 9 a.m. Dec. 26 .You must be registered by Dec. 22, requirements for the class are as follows: you must be 15 years old by Dec. 31. There are three phases of swimming skills on the first day. For the training you must attend all classes and pass the written tests at 80 percent as well as all skill tests.

In this class you will become certified in American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer, AED and Oxygen Administration — as well as lifeguarding. Certifications in this class will give you the opportunity to apply for Lifeguard jobs — at either indoor or outdoor pools.

Lifeguard Training is open for registration at the Y, you must attend all sessions and upon completion you will be certified in CPR/FPR, first aid and lifeguard training. Cost is $175 for members and $200 for non-members. If you have questions contact Cindy Bowe at 433-1804.

Youth Basketball Camp

YMCA Youth Basketball registration is open and space is limited so register early. The cost is $39 for members and $49 for non-members. The season starts Jan. 13 and runs for six weeks. It is open to youths in grades K-5. On Jan. 10 there will be a preseason clinic at Ove Berven Gym. The first clinic goes from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. for girls grades 2-5, boys grades 2-5 will be 9:45 to 11 a.m. and co-Ed grades K-1 will be 11-12:15 p.m.

The Y is open 7 a.m. to noon Thanksgiving Day.
