NFL Picks: The Vikings’ ship is sinking

Here are the picks:

N.Y. Jets at New England

The Pats are back on track and the Jets are pretty much finished. Couple that with this being a Thursday night game in New England and the recipe for a blowout is there.

PATRIOTS 41, JETS 7

Carolina at Green Bay

The Packers’ secondary is a little banged up and Cam Newton looked like he was back to his old ways of being a dual threat last week. But I can’t go against the Packers at home, especially when Aaron Rodgers is still healthy.

PACKERS 27, PANTHERS 21

Atlanta at Baltimore

The Falcons have already fallen out of contention and they are not good on the road.

RAVENS 35, FALCONS 21

Tennessee at Washington

Neither of these teams is headed for the postseason, but Kirk Cousins has shown enough for me to pick him over Charlie Whitehurst.

REDSKINS 31, TITANS 30

Seattle at St. Louis

One little complaint about the Seattle-Dallas game. When the Seahawks had a fourth and six while trailing by four late in the game, I counted three Cowboys’ defenders who were either blatantly holding or committing illegal contact well past the five yard limit as Russel Wilson threw an incomplete pass. If the NFL is going to call defensive backs for penalties when they look at a receiver funny in the first quarter, they should probably call a penalty when a defensive back is riding a receiver like a saddle bronc in the fourth quarter. A little bit of consistency is all I ask for.

SEAHAWKS 27, RAMS 10

Cleveland at Jacksonville

The Jagaurs had a chance last week, but they decided to kick a 55-yard field goal with 12 seconds left instead of getting more yards to make the attempt easier. Of course that 55-yarder was blocked and Jacksonville is still winless. So not only are their players incompetent, their coaches are as well. Good to know.

BROWNS 38, JAGUARS 17

Cinncinati at Indianapolis

Andrew Luck is well on his way to being MVP this season. The QB is doing his best Peyton Manning imitation with 1,987 yards, 17 TDs and 7 interceptions in six starts.

COLTS 27, BENGALS 23

Minnesota at Buffalo

Nobody’s offense has looked worse than Minnesota’s in the last two weeks. It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is if the offensive line can’t block and the receivers can’t get open. I feel the Vikings need to start forcing the ball to Cordarrelle Patterson in any way shape or form, whether it be a handoff, a screen, or simply lining him up at quarterback. They’re wasting some serious talent.

BILLS 27, VIKINGS 13

Miami at Chicago

Lost in Aaron Rodgers’ game-winning TD pass against the Dolphins, is Miami got to Rodgers throughout the second half and they put some big hits on him. A quarterback like Rodgers can take those hits and continue to make big plays. A quarterback like Jay Cutler will take those hits and make plays.. for the other team.

DOLPHINS 23, BEARS 21

New Orleans at Detroit

The Saints’ offense is playing a lot worse than expected this year and the Lions’ defense is playing much better than expected this year.

LIONS 19, SAINTS 16

Kansas City at San Diego

The Chargers are quietly off to a 5-1 start and Branden Oliver has come out of nowhere to fill in as a play-making threat.

CHARGERS 33, CHIEFS 20

Arizona at Oakland

The Cardinals are leading the NFC West and they have to be considered a serious threat with their defense.

CARDINALS 28, RAIDERS 20

N.Y. Giants at Dallas

I feel like the Cowboys are living in bizzaro world. Just this week, I heard that a poll was conducted that the Broncos’ are now America’s team and suddenly the Cowboys are looking like a good football team. Dallas has learned how good Demarco Murray is and they’ve learned that if you have a good running game in the NFL, it’s probably a good idea to pound the ball.

Of course the most confusing thing of all is Tony Romo’s refusal to make game-crushing plays agaisnt his own team. Maybe he was always a game manager at heart, who needs to a great running back to keep him in a limited role.

COWBOYS 38, GIANTS 24

San Francisco at Denver

Peyton Manning has a chance to catch Brett Favre for the all-time TD pass record and I expect the Mile High city to be rocking. The only question is does the ol’ gun slinger, Favre make an apperance to congratulate Manning?

BRONCOS 35, 49ERS 17

Houston at Pittsburgh

The Steelers barely beat Jacksonville and then they were clobbered by the Browns. I’m done with them and their pathetic offense.

TEXANS 17, STEELERS 10

Last week: 8-6; overall: 55-35
