Vytallis Ernestine “Talley” Thomas, 92, of Austin, Minn., died Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Adams Health Care Center.

Talley was born in South Dakota on March 21, 1922, to Ernest and Elizabeth Louise Ann (Giese) Seeman. She attended school in Duluth, Minneapolis and then married Phillip Roskop when she was 17. Talley and Phillip owned and operated the Austin Cab Company for many years. Phillip died in 1973. Talley married Kermit Thomas in 1974 and was with him for 38 years until his death Aug. 15, 2010.

Talley worked at Hormel Foods and Land O’Lakes but her most important work for her, was a position as a cook for the Austin American Legion Post 91. She put her love into cooking and baking. Her famous BBQ sauce was known around the area. Not only she loved to cook, she loved being a caregiver. She took care of Phillip, his parents, Talley’s father and the same with Kermit and his mother before their deaths.

Talley is survived by her children; Sandy Lee of Austin; Chuck (Linda) Roskop of Portland, Ore.; Randall Roskop of California; John (Celina) Thomas of Minneapolis; and Mark Thomas of California; nine grandchildren; a brother, Dale Feston of California.

Talley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Phillip and husband Kermit.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A graveside service will be held promptly at 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
