ANCHORAGE, Alaska  — A Minnesota couple was escorted down a steep and icy mountain in Alaska after calling for help.

Alaska State Troopers say 35-year-old Edwin H. Lee and 28-year-old Sarah E. Lee of Rochester, Minn., placed a 911 call Wednesday afternoon to say they needed help descending Mount Marathon.

Every July Fourth, an extreme race is held on the 3,022-foot peak in the town of Seward, about 110 miles south of Anchorage.

Troopers say the Lees reported hiking up to the race trail and then needed help because of icy and steep conditions.

A trooper and two local volunteer firefighters started up the mountain and met the Lees as they were hiking down.

No one was injured and everyone got down safely.
