Larry Gene Dunn, 70, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Wasilla, Alaska, on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Larry was born Feb. 20, 1943, in Austin, Minn., to Loren and Anna (Florentz) Dunn. He graduated from Austin High School in 1961. Larry received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

When Larry lived in Austin, he was a butcher at Zip’s Market and for the Red Owl grocery store. He also worked at Weyerhaeuser. After moving to Alaska, he was employed by the state of Alaska. During this time he became a journeyman electrician, retiring in 1993. After his retirement, he was a teacher’s assistant at his son’s pre-school and grade school for seven years.

Larry had many interests. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, master gardener and builder.

Larry is survived by his son, Glen, Anchorage; two brothers, Mervin (Bonnie) Dunn, Rockford, Ill., and Ed (Diana) Dunn, Lakewood, Colo.; three sisters, Harriet Swartz of Glendale, Calif., Darlene Dillavou of Kasota, Minn., and Teresa (Russell) Slowinski of Lyle, Minn.; brother-in-law Gary Morem (Cincinnati, Ohio); numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Anna Dunn, sister Doris Morem, and brothers-in-law Jack Swartz and Wayne Dillavou.

A memorial gathering was held at Larry’s home in Wasilla on Friday, June 28, 2013. Larry’s inurnment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Some of his ashes will be scattered in Alphabet Hills, one of his favorite hunting areas in Alaska.
