ROCHESTER — The Blue Devil softball team had some good news and bad news at Rochester Regional Stadium Wednesday.

The good news was the Blue Devils (4-2 overall, 4-2 MCAC South) swept RCTC by scores of 12-6 and 6-2, but the bad news was they lost freshman pitcher Lexie Schunke for the season.

Schunke, who is from Stewartville and is also one of RCC’s top hitters, broke her leg while running the bases in the third inning of the nightcap.

“It was a fluky play,” RCC head coach Al Eckmann said. “It’s a tough loss, but life goes on.”

Austin grad Marie Clennon will now serve as RCC’s top pitcher. She struck out seven in a win in the nightcap and she also went 4-for-9 with 3 RBIs at the plate for the day.

“Marie pitched really well today and the whole team stepped up after Lexie went down,” Eckmann said.
