Thomas E. Clennon, 40, of Austin, Minn., died on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at home after a nine-month battle with cancer.

Thomas Eugene was born on Oct. 20, 1972, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Eugene “Pat” and Louise (Bednar) Clennon. He graduated from Austin High School in 1991. He graduated from the University of Minnesota at Crookston, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in natural resource management.

Tom was a unique, interesting, and unforgettable person who was devoted to his family. He was a true patriot, who believed in the Constitution, small government and working hard to take care of oneself. He studied history and appreciated the sacrifices made for this country. He spent 15 years in Idaho and Montana and always found a “family” out west. He touched many lives. He loved cattle, horses, mules and most of all his dogs, who were his constant companions. Tom was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene “Pat” Clennon and his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Gladys Bednar.

Tom is survived by his mother, Louise Clennon, Austin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Shane and Jennifer Clennon, Fargo, N.D., Todd and De Anna Clennon, Austin, Jon Clennon, Austin, Patrick “Joe” Tabor, Austin; grandfather, Eugene Clennon, Austin; grandmother, Mary Lou Clennon, Greenville, S.C.; nieces, Marie, Olivia and Thea Clennon; nephews, Riley, Steven and Matthew Clennon; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Saturday morning. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Honorary bearers will be Riley Clennon, Steven Clennon, Matthew Clennon, John Carroll, Jon Jovaag and Rob Deny. Memorials may be designated to the Mayo Foundation.
