Relay For Life organizers are seeking entertainers to donate stage time to the annual fundraising event.

Committee member Barb Langan said the relay, which raises money for cancer research, has had trouble finding area entertainers to donate their services.

“We’ve had a couple spots filled, but we still have several open,” she said.

Three 45-minute time slots are open between 3 and 5 p.m. at the relay on Aug. 7.

“They can play music, sing, or dance… anything fun and entertaining,” she said.

The Mower County Relay for Life takes place at Veterans Pavilion/Bandshell Park in Austin on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8.

According to the American Cancer Society, the first team relay event was held in 1986, when 19 teams participated in Washington. Today, more than 4,400 relays occur throughout the United States, with more than 20 nations joining the efforts.

The local relay teams hope to raise $102,500 this year.

Those interested in donating entertainment can contact Langan at 433-2333 Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or at 437-3755 after 7 p.m. She can also be reached at bllanga@hotmail.com.
