Update: Austin under winter weather advisory

After weeks of fall-like weather and near record high temperatures, winter is back.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Austin starting at 3 p.m.

A band of snow will move into the region tonight and stall, dropping about 2 to 5 inches of snow is on the region. The heaviest snow is expected to fall overnight Wednesday.

Wind gusts of up to 30 mph could decrease visibility to a mile or less. Blowing and drifting could also be possible in open areas or on higher terrain.

The National Weather Service is advising drivers to use caution tonight and during the morning commute.

With recent warm weather, road surfaces could ice over early in the storm.
