Gilbert Carroll, 64
Gilbert Carroll, 64, passed away at Season’s Hospice Home in Rochester, Minn.
He was born in Austin on Dec. 27, 1944. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force for eight years. He lived in Colorado for the majority of his life. He was an avid hunter and expert fly fisherman. Gib took great pride in his work, doing cabinetry for multimillion dollar homes and hotels. He clearly relished his independence and did not want to be a bother to anyone. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he allowed his family to bring him to Minnesota for medical care at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, and to be with us these last few months of his life.
He is survived by his father, Edward Carroll, Austin; brothers, Ed (Patty) Carroll, Exeter, Calif., Bill (Linda) Carroll, Atkins, Minn.; sisters, Mary Carroll, OSF St. Paul, Minn., Marlene (David) Gronholz, Appleton, Minn., Rose Carroll (Jerry Saperstein), Evanston, Ill., Joann (Ken) Dibble, Medical Lake, Wash., Christine (John) Schneider, Green Bay, Wis., Sarah (Brian) Miller, Austin; twin sister, Gloria (Merlin) Paulson, Rochester, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; many wonderful friends and his dog, Honey.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Leona Carroll; grandparents, Edward and Mary Catherine Carroll, Joseph and Christina Winkles; nephew, Troy Carroll and great-nephew, Ethan Carroll.
There will be a remembrance service on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn.
Memorials are preferred to: May Hospice, Season’s Hospice, VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. or the Rochester American Legion Van Fund.
