Joseph E. Malherek, 70
Joseph E. Malherek, 70, of Blooming Prairie, died on July 10, 2009 at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1938 in Fairmont, Minn. to Peter and Mary (Seigel) Malherek. Following his college education he taught special education. He served in the U. S. Army from 1962 to 1964. On Oct. 2, 1971 Joseph Malherek married Mary Groh in Fairmont. A resident of Blooming Prairie for 20 years, he served as a lector in church, enjoyed playing community volleyball, enjoyed theater and popular culture and was a sports fan, especially of the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings.
He is survived by children, Elizabeth Mary Malherek, Minneapolis, Minn., Joseph Paul Malherek, Washington, D. C., Miguel (Michael) Alvarado, Guatemala City; sisters, Joan Malherek, Mary Malherek, Maryknoll, N.Y., Margaret Staudacher, Martinez, Calif..
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mary Malherek and brother, Paul Malherek.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church with the Reverend Harry Jewison officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth, Minn. Friends may call at the Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
