Ardith Holt, age 97, of Spring Valley, Minn. died Thursday Feb. 18, 2010 at Harmony Health Care Center where she had resided for a short time.
Ardith was born Oct. 23, 1912 in Lone Rock, Iowa to William and Sarah “Sadie” (Martin) Knoll. She graduated from Lone Rock High School in 1931 and continued her education at UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On Nov. 20, 1935 she was united in marriage to George Sears and they were later divorced. In June of 1958 she was united in marriage to Abner Holt and they were also divorced.
Ardith worked as a rural school teacher, for Libby’s and at Methodist Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed her roses and her flower beds, she also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and raising her sheep.
She is survived by four children: Joyce Hoff, Mason City, Iowa, Mervin (Mary) Sears, Harmony, Minn., Millie (Jerry) Simes, Austin, Minn., and Jack (Alice) Sears, Palm Coast, Fla.; 14 grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren and a sister-in-law: Marion Knoll, Burt, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Minnie Baker, a brother; William “Bill” Knoll and a son-in-law Dick Hoff.
Funeral services for Ardith M. Holt will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday Feb. 22, 2010 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley with the Rev. Laura Fladten officiating. Spring burial will be held in the Burt Township Cemetery, Burt, Iowa.
