Peter M. Dayer, 95

Peter Maurine Dayer, age 95, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Our House Memory Care in Austin. Peter was born August 19, 1928, in Conway, Arkansas, to Joseph and Philomeno “Mary” (Dayer) Dayer. He grew up and attended school in Arkansas. From 1950 until 1952, Peter served his country in the United States Army. Following the service, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he opened various businesses including gas stations and a dry-cleaning business. He married Gloria Kochanski, and had their only son, Mark. Then together they moved their family to Florida where Peter opened a fried chicken restaurant. They later divorced. Peter then met Rosemary McPartlin, and relocated to Austin, Minnesota, to be closer to family. The couple married on December 13, 1977, in Austin and a year later, Peter opened Dayer’s Chicken House. Peter was known for his love of gardening, which he dedicated himself to until the impressive age of 92, and his passion for exploring the United States through his travels. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Queen of Angels Catholic Church, and the American Legion Post 91 in Austin.

Survivors include his son, Mark (Dori Cain) Dayer of Lyle, Minnesota; stepchildren, Kathleen (Michael) Quandt, Robert McPartlin, Kevin McPartlin, Sean McPartlin, Hugh “Bud” (Kathleen) McPartlin; brothers, George Dayer, John Dayer, and Adolf Dayer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Dayer; parents, Joseph and Philomeno “Mary” Dayer; and 15 siblings.

A graveside service will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mayer-Hoff Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mayerfh.com.
