Bicyclist injured after colliding with car

An Austin man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after his bicycle struck a car Tuesday evening.

According to Austin Police Capt. Todd Clennon, a 45 year-old man was riding a bicycle south on the east side of 12th Street Southwest at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday. A car driven by a 48-year-old Austin man was preparing to turn north onto 12th Street from Sixth Avenue Southwest.

The bicyclist told police that he saw the driver did not see him, but tried to get around him anyway. The bicycle struck the car as it was trying to make a right turn.

The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Austin with minor injuries.

Clennon did not release the names of either party involved.
