Hy-Vee recalls No-Salt-Added Black Beans; Batch with label of April 4, 2019, may have metal, plastic shavings

0721-Hy-Vee-beansHy-Vee Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of Hy-Vee No-Salt-Added Black Beans across its eight-state region due to the potential presence of plastic and/or metal pieces within the product. The presence of small pieces of plastic and/or metal has the potential to cause a choking hazard and may cause adverse health consequences, including injury.

The voluntary recall is for 15-ounce cans of Hy-Vee No-Salt-Added Black Beans with the code “Best By 04 APR 2019 258F2 095 16 XXXX” and UPC number of 0075450105190. The product was sold at Hy-Vee stores in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin between April 22, 2016, and July 18, 2016.

To date, no injuries have been reported in connection with this product.

The potential for contamination was discovered after Faribault Foods Inc. Hy-Vee’s supplier, announced it was issuing a recall after one consumer reported finding a partial ink pen in one container. The product was manufactured at the company’s Faribault, Minnesota, facility, which supplies several major retailers across the United States. Faribault Foods Inc. has determined this to be an isolated incident.

Out of an abundance of caution, Hy-Vee is recalling the product from all of its stores. No other Hy-Vee food items are impacted by this recall.

Customers who purchased this product should discard it or return it to their local Hy-Vee store for a full refund.
